Every lamp & shade, textile fabric, cushion, wallpaper and artwork that we create is born from our love of nature, authenticity, and connection — designed to bring warmth, colour, and character into your space.
Founded by mother-daughter duo Peta and Ellie Sweetman, Bowerbird is the culmination of their lifelong collaboration of creativity and care. Based in Paddington, Brisbane, their bold designs are touching homes all across Australia.
Peta's Story
From Dream to Design
In 1994, guided by a vivid dream, interior designer Peta Sweetman decided to follow her inspiration and step into a new creative direction - ceramics.
Her deep love of colour and pattern led her to create ornate Moroccan inspired tile panels. The pursuit of bold greens and organic textures motivated her to developed her own glaze recipes over the next 17 years.
And in 2010, guided again by a dream, she opened our first store — a place where she could share her unique handmade ceramic lamps and tiles.

An Artists Insight
Ellie, then a Fine Arts student with a passion for oil painting, brought her creative fire to the business. Her artwork now lives in our signature prints, fabrics, and custom-designed cushions and lampshades.

Original Designs, Born from Paintings
Our fabric and lampshade collections begin as Ellie’s original oil and gouache paintings, digitally transformed and printed on natural fibre cloth using eco-friendly inks.
Australian Handmade with Integrity
Our ceramic lamp bases are hand-built by Peta in Brisbane using custom glazes she’s developed over three decades. Each piece carries a bit of our hands, hearts, and heritage.
Eco-Conscious & Intentional
We use sustainable materials, zero-waste printing methods, and offer made-to-order options to reduce excess. Quality, not quantity, guides every decision we make.
